Preamble to Constitution

As South Africans, we acknowledge that the democracy achieved in April 1994 was hard-fought for and achieved after many years of struggle and sacrifice by countless South Africans. We recognise and embrace the democratic principles enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Bill of Rights (Constitution of SA), and seek to ensure that those principles are applied and adhered to at all times, in all spheres. Our democracy is under threat from various quarters: corruption, the lack of ethical leadership in government and society generally, high youth unemployment coupled with a lack of opportunities to develop their skills, poor or non-existent service delivery, and rampant criminality and violence against the most vulnerable that continue unabated and unchecked. We are a country under siege, and are among the most unequal societies in the world. The ACM seeks to play a role in addressing these challenges in order to restore the dignity and freedom of all South Africans. We will advocate, to the extent we are able to, for a life free from hunger, homelessness, fear, and insecurity

ACM

Background
As concerned South Africans we note:

The alienation of public officials from the people.

The lack of delivery and attention to the needs of the people

The inequality and the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor.

The increasing corruption in both the public and private sectors and, in particular, of government officials/public servants, poor governance and misuse of public money

The increasing deviation from the principles contained in the Constitution of SA through the disregard of human rights and dignity, access to the land and life’s amenities. We are therefore committed to promoting the principles of accountability of public servants, good governance, democratic practices and the promotion of all rights as contained in the Constitution of SA, through greater participation of an active citizenry in the form of the ‘Active Citizens’ Movement.’
